A terrific deck of slides, Doug. Even without the audio, it contains a lot of good information. Thanks for posting it.

Thanks, Ryan!

I'd also welcome feedback on how Slideshare works for everyone. This is my first time putting slides on the blog, so I'm experimenting with different technologies.

What POS (point of sale) system are you using? The biggest issue you need to deal with is integrating the two. What's shown on the web needs to be synched with what you have on the floor.

Without spending enormous dollars, the best combo for this is what I use - MicroSoft RMS with NitroSell web store - and both can be purchased from Rich at Positive Software. Look for their link at the bottom of my site: www.amazinggrapeswinestore.com.

Good luck,

Greg

Hi Klaus - thanks for the kind words. If there are things I can do to make Able Grape even better from the amateur winemaker perspective, please do let me know!

How about some recognition of amateur winemakers . I'm in the AWO(amateur winemakers of ontario). Our organization recently recomended your site in our monthly newsletter. There are thousands of serious amateurs in Canada and the States. I crush about a ton of purchased grapes(mostly from California) and I grow my own hybrids. I am passionate about wine. Your search is way better than google! I use it all the time.

I was reading your "how it all started" piece and I was surprised how similar your motive for starting Able Grape was to ours for starting BoozeMonkey here in Oz : we went to a big wine show a couple of years ago and when we left we wanted to find out ALL about Aussie wine, but while we knew the information must be out there somewhere, we quickly realised that you had to have a very clear idea WHAT you wanted to know and you also needed to have a good idea WHERE to look for it.

So BoozeMonkey was born out of the frustration of there being no central source of information to kickstart our discovery of new wines. I suppose it's a common way for new ventures to start though -- you find a way to scratch your itch.

One thing I can say though: if Able Grape had existed at that time, we may never have come up with the idea to set up a wine community at all.

Ain't fate strange?!

Matt

[BTW - this probably isn't the right place to ask, but do you think we could snag a place on your blogroll? There is a link to Able Grape posted on BoozeMonkey here : http://www.BoozeMonkey.com/links.php ]
